Music Committee Minutes

August 10, 2004

1. Opening, Check-In

2. Sunday Book
Hymns were selected for late August and early September.

3. Update on Budget
We reviewed the ’04-’05 budget related to Music and discussed budgeted amounts for the non-choir accompanist. The Music Committee fundraising for the Tapestry project raised $1011.21 last year. Michele proposed that of the $211.21 of the proceeds (above the $800 to replentish retained reserves) we give $50 to Thomas Rheingans and $80 to Talisman as thanks for playing for our fundraising concert (which they agreed to do for free).

4. Update on Piano

Rex will pick up the RE piano on the 16 th. $250 from maintenance and $720 from the Music Restricted fund was used to pay for the repairs. We will ask the children for RE to do some fundraising for their piano(Rex will talk to Barbara regarding this). We hope that their interest in the piano will grow after it is repaired. The keys will be rebushed, hammers and shanks will be installed, and the piano will be tuned

5. Update on Contra Dance in February
The Contra Dance will be on Founder’s Day on February 26 th. We will get a caller, and Carl Thor will help find two extra musicians. A potluck will start at 6:30pm and dancing will start at 7:30pm and may last until 10:30 or 11:30pm.

6. Next Step for Thomas Rheingans
Erica will contact Thomas about a possible concert(s) in November.

7. What is our vision for a Fellowship of 300+ members
Rex read us the vision of the Music program of the UU Church of Eugene. We need to decide what direction we want to go, what our goals and vision will be.

8. The Sunday accompanist.  Report from the Board meeting
We hope that Karen will be our non-choir accompanist. If she does not, we may put an ad in the paper for the position. Rex has worked very hard regarding this topic and Rex made a great presentation at the August Board meeting.

9. Our First Coffee House;  How do we want to run them this year?  We must go through the Stewardship Committee when we schedule them if they are fund rasiers.

We may want to schedule the coffee houses now so that we get a good choice of dates (spring coffee house – kaleidoscope or mixture of themes; fall coffee house with world music; May concert with headliners and in-house acts). We put in a request for November 13 th for the Main Building for either a concert or coffee house, and an April 23 rd coffee house, and a June 4 th concert.

10. Other
Agenda for September: check MSUUF website for information related to Music – is it updated?

Rex will ask Jennifer if she would be willing to chair the Music Committee for the next 5 months. We also need to recruit new members for the Music Committee.

Kristine put in a pulpit note stating that choir rehearsal begins on August 19 th.

In January, we should schedule a concert or coffee house for the fall of 2005.

Christmas: would any of the Music Comm members wish to help out with planning for the Christmas Eve service? It would be nice to have the children involved in music for the Christmas Eve service. Rex will check with Catherine Plaxton about children performing at the 6:30pm service.

We have two more events for Ryc.

11. Closing
