Music Committee Minutes
January 13, 2004
1. Opening (Rex) and Check-in
Nodes and antinodes - model of sound for YRUU
2. Program Council Report (Rex)
3. February 7th Program (Al Wilson)
Date will be moved again so that there will be fewer time conflicts. They would
like to do vignettes of South Pacific, Music Man and possibly Annie Get Your
Gun with a smattering of songs from other musicals. New date: March 27th
4. Choir Report (Rex)
5. Recorded music for the History Team (Erica)
The history video is being made for the 50th Anniversary Celebration and the
history team has requested that some music be recorded by the choir. Song requested
are Java Jive, Go Now in Peace, Spirit of Life, the Michael Servetus song and
about four hymns.
6. Soup Sunday Committee February 8th
Rex will make an announcement to the choir this Thursday, but we will have
sign-ups next week for volunteers.
7. Hymn Selection
Hymns for January have all been selected. Things did not go smoothly on January
4th. If we introduce a new hymn we should have it played through on the piano
at least once.
8. Featured Musicians (Rex)
Brian will no longer be our featured musician coordinator. Featured musicians
need to be found for March 28th, May 4th and May 30th. Rex will ask Kathy Loveall
if she would like to take over the position. For children’s time we could
play canned music or have the pianist play something, which would reduce the
number of featured musicians to 13.
9. Contra Dance Update (Rex)
Starting in the fall Rex may start organizing some Contra Dances as a community
wide event to be held in the Fellowship. We need a caller and a band. It could
be a good moneymaker and a good source of outreach to the community.
10. March Coffee House
Theme: a tapestry of woven threads. We should start PR (fliers - Michele, notices
in the bulletin - Erica) and invitations to participants. Erica will do a blurb
for the February Servetan and Michele will do a ½ page ad for the March
Servetan.
Possible performers: Rex and Andrew, Circle Round, 3 cellos, Alex Rotaski (violin),
Erica could do a reading, etc.
11. Budget for New Year soon!
Can we think of 10 events for Ryc next year? Do we want to ask for an increase
over this year’s 5 events?
12. April 25th Intergenerational Service (Rex)
Rex has asked Mark to come up with a topic for the service. Rex is working
with YRUU to build the instruments and Ryc will be writing music. Rex may need
help from Music Committee members to help with the process of learning to play
the music and instruments and help the YRUU’s teach the younger children.
Extra Notes/Tasks:
Michelle will talk with Helen Hewitt about mentioning musical programs/activities
to new members.
Rex will talk with Ryc about his special events and the possibility of a small
group or men’s choir for a June service.
Have Nora talk to Ryc about rehearsing the choral reflection on Thursday rehearsals.
