Music Committee Minutes

Feb 11 2003

Present Rex Siegfried, Erica Kelley, Nancy Bonner, Jennifer
Pratt-Walter, Kristine Bendixen, and Michele Glover

Kristine took notes of the meeting for Rex to type up with some edits.

Old Business

°Tri-fold- We would like to print them soon and put a link on our web
page to it. There was some discussion as to weather our phone numbers
and email address should be included, as they will change over time.

°Steinway- Completion of the Steinway Grand is getting close. We are
experiencing some delay due to the shipping of the hammers for the
mechanism. The case should be returned the first of March if we stay on
schedule.
When the piano is playable, we want to have a private showing for those
that supported the piano by buying keys. Rex will get information out to
ask for help when the time arrives.

°Olympia Trip- Mark and Ryc have discussed the liturgy for the service
on 2/23. The works for "Over the Rain Bow" need to be printed out for
the congregation in Olympia.

°Evaluation Sub committee- Rex Siegfried, Wanda York, Erica Kelley, and
Michele Glover will be meeting to start the evaluation process for the
choir accompanist and a letter to be given to the Contracted Choir Director.

°March 22nd Classical Coffee Hours- Thom Rheingans has been confirmed
for 30 minutes in 2nd half. Emma's trio is a possibility, Rex will ask.
John is available to play duets and trio, Rex is working on a piano
trio, and there is also a request for a singer or a madrigal group.
Erica will contact Ron Paul about his quartet.
Kristine will fill out the fundraising form for the Board and will take
it to the Board of Trustees at their next meeting. We need a blurb in
the Servetan this Sunday. Rex will place an announcement in the Church
Bulletin for March.
Jennifer is willing to get out information to the press and churches and
the Senior Messenger.

°Budget- Rex will be requesting a report from the treasurer that he can
understand. Nancy B will be getting a readout from the bookkeeper and
will get together with Rex to clarify our monetary resources.

New Business

° Choir Director- Rex met with Ryc to clarify the rest of the seasons
music with Ryc and to ensure that the Olympia trip would go smoothly.

°Hootenannie- the group has another gig scheduled. This is a group that
may do some other performances. There seems to be a desire on several of
the members to see that happen.

°May or June Coffee House- Discussion on this topic have been put off
until next meeting.

°First Church of Portland- A free concert of the First Unitarian Church
of Portland Cuba Choir will be offered at the Fellowship on Sunday the
2nd of March at 2:00PM. We hope to have some refreshments available
after the performance.

° Tenebrae- Erica will talk to the Worship committee to see if they want
to take responsibility for this event as they have for Christmas. A
committee of Erica Kelley, Rex Siegfried, and Jennifer Pratt-Walter will
be directing Tenebrae this year. The choir is getting ready to sing, and
the Chime Choir is also getting songs ready for the Good Friday Service.

General Business

° Hymn Singing- this is still continuing.
° Hymns for non-Mark Sundays. It would be beneficial to have Topic before
we select Hymns.
° Sunday Book update- The Sunday Book is in good shape for the next few
weeks.
° Featured Musician- several dates in March are still open.

Opening and Closing for next meeting will be Erica Kelley.
