Music Committee MinutesJanuary 11 , 20051. Opening/Check-in 2. Peter Henrickson Peter also brought financial printouts for the Music Committee (Music Operating Budget, and Music Program Reserve accounts). Peter would like us to combine the three reserve accounts (General Music Reserves, Piano Repair Reserve and Chime Repair Reserve). Rex wants to make sure that if the reserve accounts are combined, that the amounts designated for future piano repair and future chimes repairs are clearly noted so that the money attributed for those is not spent. Side note: the $800 for the RE piano repair should have been taken out of the General Music Reserve Fund and not out of the Piano Repair Reserve Fund. Peter will have a work party (date to be scheduled – late Feb.) to work on the Budget – visioning for the next 3-4 years. 3. Approval of the December Minutes The minutes were approved as amended. 4. The Sunday Book We will ask Jack Slingerland if he has any requests for hymns for 2/20. All hymns for January had been selected. 5. Christmas Eve Revisited. The tune for O Little Town of Bethlehem is a bit of a struggle for the congregation (tune to Sweet June Days). Rex suggested that we could sing the song the Sunday before, or a flute or clarinet could accompany and play the melody. A quartet or trio or the choir could sing the first verse. 6. Tenebrae Jennifer and Erica will be working on the committee this year. The choir will be available for the service, and several committee members (Rex, Kristine, Michele, and Paul ) are interested in being in the service. 7. Report from the Choir Manager. The choir is now sitting at the sides of the dais in order to free up more space for the congregation for the second service. Link’s service proved to be a homecoming for former choir members. Wanda York, Bob and Kathy Koches will return, and Dave Irwin will join us as time allows. 8. Music coordinator and the Music Committee (Erica) We need to write down the procedures for Coffee Houses, Christmas Eve Services, and the procedures etc. for other events and special services. We would like to have it on paper and in a binder in a Music Resources Book, rather than relying on institutional knowledge. 9. The January Coffee House 7:00pm Michele will make a flyer, Jennifer will do community publicity. Erica will make submissions to the Bulletin. Donation and/or dessert. Rex will ask Clancy if he will MC. Rex will also recruit for sound/lights. Nancy will take care of the front table. Set-up with tables and several chairs, flowers and candles on the tables. Rex, Michele, Erica and Paul will help set up. Erica will ask Marilyn to make coffee, and have coffee available at the beginning. Clean-up: Kristine, Jennifer, Rex, Erica. Music Committee will do thank-you notes.
10. The Feb Contra Dance We have 15 performers coming, plus a caller. 11. The distribution of the new Music fliers They are in the rack and are made available during the newcomer meetings. 12. Thomas Rheingans needs to have a venue. We were booked for 2/12, but we need to find a future date for him. Rex will call Thomas to let him know that the Water Resource Center has a grand piano. 13. Problems with the accompanist on Jan 2. There were miscommunications and the featured musician thought he would be accompanying the hymns. 14. Other Christina Dodds put in a request to change the words to the song Go Now in Peace to “ Go now in peace, go now in joy”. We agreed that this is not a decision that the Music Committee should be making and we are forwarding it to the Worship Committee. Michele and Erica agreed to check out the website music programs and submit edits. We need a newer choir picture for the website. Kristine will e-mail Andrew a newer photo. 15. Closing
