Membership Committee Minutes

July 12th 2004

Present: Lyle Smith, Preston Seu, Donna Shaver, Marilyn Hill, Kathy Kidwell, Robbie Bertram, Jennifer McCray, Dick and Helen Hewitt .

1. After Check In we went on to Status Reports:

• Neighborhood Groups: Lyle is thinking offering a daytime neighborhood group for those people who don’t drive at night. He will publicize the idea and see what reponse he gets.
• Nametags: Preston will notify all members who joined at the June Ingathering, to tell them that they now have permanent nametags and nametag slots.
• Bulletin Boards: Robbie reconstructed our bulletin board displays, which had been taken down when the Auction was held. She will inquire about the crowded UUA bulletin board.
• Greeters: Jennifer is beginning to fill Greeter spots for September and October.
• Hospitality Corner: Helen reported that because it is seldom used, the Hospitality Corner and sign are no longer being used. A year-long listing of all Membership events has been posted.

2. The Calendar of Membership Events for the year 2004-05 was distributed. It was noted that Jerry King has agreed to offer a UU/MSUUF History session in November. We hope the Gagniers will once again offer their successful June potluck party for the year’s new members.

3. MSUUF Advertisements: Donna reported that her research on UUA ads resulted in the possibility of our using four of the ads. The committee asked Donna to place an ad each week in The Columbian, beginning the week of August 30. We chose the 1 column x 5” size for approx. $130. We will repeat the same ad each week. We modified the UUA ad, omitting a few lines. Donna will try to have the ad placed on the Op Ed page or else in the Clark County section of the newspaper. It was noted that the ad must be placed at least one week before the date it will run. We thanked Donna for her work.

4. MSUUF Brochures: Once again we reviewed the three brochures (Visitor’s packet, Connecting, About Worship) that we have been working on. Several improvements were suggested. Helen will make corrections and forward the completed brochures to Donna who will add the familiar chalice logo and then forward the brochures to Kathy for copying.

5. The August committee meeting was canceled.

6. The committee meeting ended, with some people going to dinner together.

Next Membership Committee meeting will take place on Monday, September 13, at 5:30.
